Play Green Brackets
Help your school win the 2010 Green Brackets Competition! Any school is eligible to participate, whether it is part of the division I college basketball tournament or not (see more on eligibility below). To be the winning school, rack up points the following ways between March 3 and April 7, 2010:
- Get your school's photos, videos, and stories (that pertain to sustainability in sports) successfully chosen by the ACUPCC team to go up on the GreenBrackets web site (5 points per each photo, video, and story chosen and posted to the site). These can be submitted by one or more people from a particular school.
- Cheer your team on to advance in the tournament (5 points per round won in men's or women's division 1 basketball tournament, including 5 additional points for the tournament winner). Again, a school need not be part of the tournament to participate in the Green Brackets Competition.
- Your school is a member of the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) (5 points). Check to see if your school is a signatory here. Non-ACUPCC schools may participate.
Examples of photos, stories, and videos:
- A photo of you at a tournament game with a sign that says something like "Big Red Goes Green. GreenBrackets.com"
- A video of your school's director of athletics talking about the greening of the department.
- A brief write-up describing some of your school's most innovative green athletics efforts or a link to an existing article about this type of thing.
- Submissions can be from current activities or past ones, and they can be basketball tournament-related or not - as long as they relate to sustainability in sports.

Eligibility:
The focus of the competition is the 'greening' of college athletics. Although we highlight men's and women's schools that make the division I college basketball tournament, as well as schools that are signatories of the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment (ACUPCC), any school of higher education is eligible to play the 2010 Green Bracket Competition. People affiliated with colleges and universities (students, faculty, staff, alumni, or just plain fans) are eligible to play on their schools' behalf.
Note: The 2010 division I college men's and women's basketball tournament teams are eligible for certain extra points toward the Green Bracket Competition, as are institutions that have signed the ACUPCC. Please see the play rules above for more information on these points and other ways to win the 2010 Green Bracket..
Timing: The Green Bracket Competition starts on the date the site is launched: March 3, 2010, and ends at 11:59pm (Pacific Time) on the day after the last championship game is played: April 7, 2010.
The Winning Team
If your school racks up more points than any other, it wins! Winning the Green Bracket Competition is a great opportunity to promote sustainability in sports in general and at your school. The winning team will be featured on the Green Brackets website as well as the American College & University Presidents' Climate Commitment website. We will also work to find other opportunities to highlight the winner and this topic into the future.
The winner will be announced within a few days of the close of the tournament.
